The Dutch East India Company

The archives of the Dutch East India Company are officially regarded as world heritage; they are stored at the Nationaal Archief.

If you are interested in the Dutch East India Company then you have come to the right place. Much has been written about this organisation, and the library at the Nationaal Archief has many titles to choose from.

There is also a lot of information on the internet. For example, on the TANAP website you can find descriptions of the VOC letters and documents that were shipped back home, and in the Nationaal Archief’s index of VOC sea voyagers (VOC opvarenden) you can search by name for people on board the VOC ships.

If you are looking for a crew member or passenger on board a VOC ship, you can also use the research guide below.

I'm looking for a VOC sea voyager is a website of the National Archives of The Netherlands in cooperation with the Society for the National Archives and Spaarnestad Photo.
