The Nationaal Archief collection
Almost a thousand years of Dutch history is stored at the Nationaal Archief – contained in 125 kilometres of archive material. The Nationaal Archief collection consists of row upon row of printed and handwritten documents: some 300,000 maps and drawings and about 14 million photographs. There are also around 60,000 reference works in the library. The 150 indexes containing about 2.5 million records are the ‘tables of contents’ for all these archives.
The archives originate from:
- the central government
- the County of Holland and the regional and provincial administrations in South Holland
- private organisations and individuals.
You can search the archives, photographs and maps, and even the library and indexes - either as a whole or individually. Under Q and A you will find detailed instructions on how to search this website.
