Marens Engelhard new Director Nationaal Archief
As from 1 October 2014 Mr. Marens Engelhard (58) will succeed Martin Berendse as National Archivist of the Netherlands and General Director of the Dutch Nationaal Archief.
Engelhard currently is Director and City Archivist of the Amsterdam City Archives since 2010, managing nearly 200 employees. Like the Nationaal Archief, both public service in the field of documented cultural heritage as online access and digital developments in the archival world are familiar important issues for the Amsterdam City Archives.
Before Engelhard (originally historian) became City Archivist, he worked as town clerk in the city of Osdorp, interim manager, advisor, and director of the Paedological Institute Amsterdam. Working for the central government is not completely new to Engelhard: in the late nineties he worked for the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He spent the first 10 years of his carrier working for various advise bureaus all over the world.
Engelhard describes himself as focussed on results, someone who makes contradictions workable and a team player with regard for people. He is married, has 1 daughter who is in college, he builds furniture, loves to travel and plays (classical) music with friends.
