The Nationaal Archief has published a digital guide on 16th to 18th century shipwrecks. The guide ‘I am looking for information on a shipwreck’ is a tool for archival research on vessels of the Dutch East India and West India Company and the Admiralty, and is now online available on this website.

The research guide not only mentions the most important (maritime) archives from the collection of the Nationaal Archief. Relevant websites and literature are also listed. With this guide, one can find information on routes, crew and cargo; original records of ships long lost at sea.

Research Guide to Maritime Wrecks

The research guide is based on the Research Guide to Maritime Wrecks of the Mutual Cultural Heritage Programme. Both guides are online available in English and Dutch.
